MCMSC's own Carlos Castillo-Chavez joined other renowned mathematicians in a Congressional Brief, stressing diversity in mathematics.  The congressional briefing, held September 22, was organized by Congressman RubĂ©n Hinojosa (D-TX), co-chair of the House Diversity and Innovation Caucus.  Sylvia T. Bozeman of Spelman College joined Dr. Castillo-Chavez as they concentrate on underlying factors that have resulted in underrepresentation of African Americans and Hispanics in the mathematical sciences; suggest educational practices that can improve matters; and consider the role the federal government can play to enhance STEM representation by minorities.
