JBMSHP completes its 40th summer program

Eighty-five Arizona high school students successfully completed the 2025 Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program summer session. During the program, students gained first-hand experience of college life by living at the Barrett, The Honors College residence hall and enrolling in one of several university-level math courses at Arizona State University for academic credit.

MAT 274: Elementary Differential Equations
In addition to their math coursework, students engaged in a variety of enriching activities designed to support their academic and personal growth including:
Attended academic success sessions on topics such as college admissions, financial aid, professionalism, and developing a STEM identity.
Participated in a college resource fair, explored financial literacy, and networked with JBMSHP alumni currently working in STEM fields.
Attended a 3D planetarium show at the ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration, hiked up ASU’s iconic “A” Mountain, and took a field trip to OdySea Aquarium to explore marine life and aquatic ecosystems.
Students from 53 Arizona high schools participated in this year’s program, with 71% identifying as first-generation college-bound. Since its founding in 1985, the JBMSHP has served over 3,200 students, providing transformative academic experiences and pathways to success in STEM.
