JBMSHP students successfully complete the summer program
82 Arizona high school students successfully completed the 2024 JBMSHP summer program. Students received first-hand experience of what it is like to be a college student. They lived at the Barrett Honors College residence hall and took one of the following math courses at ASU for university credit:
- MAT 117: College Algebra
- MAT 170: Pre-Calculus
- MAT 265: Calculus for Engineers I
- MAT 266: Calculus for Engineers II
In addition to the math course, students also:
- Attended academic success sessions on topics such as applying to college, financial aid, professionalism, and developing a STEM identity.
- Participated in a college resource fair, learned about financial literacy, submitted an ASU admissions application and networked with JBMSHP alumni working as STEM professionals.
- Visited ASU Gammage to see “Hamilton: An American Musical” and hiked ASU’s iconic “A” Mountain
- Attended a 3D planetarium show at the ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration
- Learned about mathematical biology research from ASU faculty
56 Arizona high schools were represented and 73% of the participants are first-generation college bound. Since its inception in 1985, over 3,100 students have attended the JBMSHP.
